I was able to capture this image of the rare and glorious aurora borealis in May 2024 in Connecticut. It is rare for an aurora to be visible in Connecticut, but the solar activity on this particular evening made it possible.

I knew I needed to get to a location that was high in elevation and provided a dark sky. I found just the spot in Woodbury, CT near Good Hill Farm Airport. Once I arrived, I found quite a few other photographers at the location as well and we remained there into the wee hours of the night taking many photos.

This is another favorite shot I captured during the night. I really like the way you can see the waves of the aurora descending down vertically in the sky through the vivid colors.

I've always wanted to see and photograph the aurora and I was very fortunate to experience this (possibly) once in a lifetime event.
